Inking My way Through It
Eric Olcsvary - Solo Exhibition
Station Arts Center, Tillsonburg ON
May 9th - June 6th, 2025
The theme of this exhibition is specifically the path I’ve chosen in my artistic practice and the growth that has come from it. As a comic book artist, ink has certainly become my main focus for my whole life both in my artworks and my inspirations. Day and night I read comics and draw comics. Showcased will be actual penciled and inked pages from comic books I am working on, as well as paintings that have brought me to where I am now both in skill and artistic concepts.

The Talk Vacuum - 2025
Approx. 60” x 48” | Acrylic on Shaped Masonite | $1200
My newest puzzle painting, a more sophisticated design and concept, focusing less on artist block, and more on the wave of success, and how experience and failure brought it to be. The Talk Vacuum is a beautiful and frightful take on how communication, experimentation, and upbringing can shape not only an artist’s creation, but their personal life.
This painting was inspired by my hometown of Tillsonburg, along with all of the things that not only influenced me and brought happiness, but the things that pushed me down and brought pain. I thank it all for who I am today.
First painting of a triptych.
Music I listened to at the time:
• Flight B741 - KGLW
• Presence - Led Zeppelin
• Rage Against the Machine
-
Spatial Division - 2021
Approx. 55” x 48” | Acrylic on Shaped Masonite | $800
The sequel to The Distorted Puzzle. Just as I was finishing it up, I was beginning to work in comic books, creating my Wendy and the Sprite series. I used this newfound excitement and inspiration and merged it with my graphical acrylic painting; building onto the artist block concept previously, and rekindling my love for the medium.
To add to the concept, instead of making separate “puzzle pieces”, I attached every piece to a large egg shape, as if to hatch into something new in my life and career; boy was I correct.
Music I listened to at the time:
• Rust in Peace - Megadeth
• Black Star - David Bowie
• Machina/Machines of the Gods - Smashing Pumpkins
-
The Distorted Puzzle - 2020
Approx. 60” x 36” | Acrylic on Shaped Masonite | $650
My first puzzle painting, inspired completely by artist block. This was a project in my first year of post-secondary and I had zero ideas at all. So I put on my favourite album at the time, picked out my favourite colour, and slashed at the canvas.
The main concept here is embracing change, the uncertain, and breaking out of routine.
Music I listened to at the time:
• Siamese Dream - Smashing Pumpkins
• Mind Over Matter - Young the Giant
• Abigail - King Diamond

Night Terrors - Looking Back
~ 22” x 22” | Acrylic paint on shaped masonite | $800
I grew up with Night Terrors as a kid, when they finally went away they were replaced with chronic migraines. Needless to say I had a lot I wanted to let out artistically, but (for many, many reasons) I didn’t know how to start, where, why, or even when. In post-secondary, painting class was where I learned how to do just that.
My teacher said, ‘Don’t paint something made up, paint something you know’. A lot of my peers were confused by this statement, wanting to paint unknown and fantasy worlds. I painted the abstract, the confusing, the unknown, but I knew it all too well. I painted exactly what I saw growing up.
This particular painting is of a house just outside of Tillsonburg that my grandparents used to live in, and of one particular night-terror I had of it.

Night Terrors - The Spinning Disk
~ 13.5” x 12” | Acrylic paint on shaped masonite | $800
As stated for “Looking Back”, I grew up with night-terrors, and this painting is a crude interpretation of one of my earliest ones. One that certainly stuck for a long time.
I had a fever, and I will never forget closing my eyes to sleep, continuously dreaming of this disk spinning and a ticker hitting the disk every mili-second, it made me nauseous….
It still does.

Dot; Stars Fall Behind You
~ 11” x 14” | India ink on Bristol Vellum | $400
This illustration is a depiction of what Dot the Robot goes through in Book 3, a story I have written but have not worked on just yet.
The title is a reference to a song, "“She Speaks” on my album, “A Split in the Sun”, most of the song references what Dot must go thru in the third book; climbing The Northbound Mountain and undoing what would be known as, The Fading.
-
Dot; The Cold Robot
~ 11” x 14” | India ink on Bristol Vellum | $200
A portrait of Dot during the final events of the Wendy and the Sprite comic series which is currently running, we won’t see this version of Dot for a while.
-
Untitled Reaper
~ 11” x 14” | India ink on Bristol Vellum | $120
Inspired from the Bloodborne and Dark Souls series. The SoulsBorne games and the manga series, Berserk are huge inspirations for my inking style, story telling and lore-rich elements in my work.
